The ‘Retrospective Exhibition of Nijolė Šaltenytė’s Work’ invites viewers to embark on a journey through the multi-layered creative world of the printmaker, discovering not only dreamlike visions and cosy everyday rituals, but also a dissection of the internal states of a human being living in today’s unstable world. Having debuted at the beginning of the 1970s, Šaltenytė belongs to a generation of female printmakers—strong, distinctive woman artists who spoke in a poetic language and worked with classical printmaking techniques. Among them, Šaltenytė stands out for her characteristic style, where wit and irony intertwine with existential anxiety, themes of self-observation and loneliness, and symbolic thinking. The exhibition presents standalone prints, graphic installations, and drawings. It is accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue detailing the artist’s life and work, which also introduces her book illustrations and graphic design projects.
