Boris Taskov ‘Crumbs of Light’

Address: Stiklių g. 4 (Didžioji g. 19)II - V 12-18:00 VI 12-16:00

Formally, one could argue that Boris Taskov belongs to the classical school of photography, since he shoots with an analogue camera and prints his work on traditional silver gelatin paper. However, statistically, Taskov’s pieces exist in a unique stylistic ‘in-between’, falling neither into the framework of humanistic, psychological photography nor into the category of sharp street observation. Instead, the works signal the observation of insignificant shifts in chiaroscuro as a form of loneliness and the existence of a character detached from the main action. In a way, Taskov could be described as a contemporary Algimantas Kunčius, where the core elements of photography—light and the focal zone—become the main protagonists of the images. Three years ago, the Bulgarian-born photographer, who had been living and working in Lithuania, relocated to Sicily. There, his style began to reflect a sense of loneliness, a focus on slow passing of time, a specific worldview, and a form of light unique to that region. Taskov’s solo exhibition represents another effort by the Lithuanian Society of Art Photography to present Lithuanian photographers working abroad.
