Group exhibition “Kupstai”

Opening: September 10, 18:00

The exhibition approaches artworks through the image of a kupstas—a tangled structure formed in nature. Beneath a grass-covered mound lies a web of symbiotic relationships, a kind of interconnectedness that can also be found within the spaces of “Retrito smarsas.”

“Kupstai” raises the question of how to represent relationships between art and living environments when traditional methods of depicting nature are becoming outdated. It offers an opportunity to consider new forms of agency: how the concept of the kupstas and its network-like structure might be adapted for further autonomous action, which is at the core of “Retrito smarsas.”

The artists participating in the exhibition approach this question through a range of disciplines and media, exploring different possible ways of engaging with it. Questions of autonomy, care, memory, and visibility are brought to the fore. The exhibition proposes drawing parallels between community, ecology, and education, creating a dense network capable of intertwining across both space and time.

The kupstas is used in the exhibition as a structure through which art can become an experience shared collectively, allowing us to become entangled with the places where it takes root.
