Marija Benetytė’s solo painting exhibition ‘You Like It’.
The works on display belong to an ongoing series that the artist conceived as a monument to Labour—the endless toil we would all abandon if we hit the lottery jackpot. Throughout the creative process, the artist repurposes random digital fragments from her graphic design practice, breathing new, more vibrant life into them. Vector scraps, digital tool markings, and remnants of dismantled patterns serve as raw material for sketching, which she then translates into analogue painting. Detached from their original contexts, these fragments begin to interact through unexpected connections born not of logic, but of time, rhythm, or error. This hybrid painting style offers promises it fails to keep, reveals only to mislead, intensely tantalises, and suddenly rewards—not unlike yesterday’s shopping list, torn apart and reassembled in an unexpected order, had transformed into strange poetry. And you like it.
