EXHIBITION OPENING
‘A Waiting Break’ | 15:00

September 10th

‘A Waiting Break’. From the series ‘Viktorija’. Vidas Simanavičius. Exhibition Concept and Coordinaion – Vaiva Simanavičienė.
It is customary, upon seeing the figure of a pregnant woman, to anticipate an expected future—the birth of a new human being. A break (defined in the Lithuanian dictionary as ‘the interruption or halting of an action or process for a certain period of time’) in the regular rhythm would here be called ‘maternity leave’. It is customary to consider this a victory. A male sculptor depicting a nude female figure these days would be swiftly dismissed by a progressive aesthetician as sexualising and objectifying. But how do customary perceptions shift when an expected break turns into a waiting break? What begins to appear as a new normal when events stubbornly repeat themselves outside the planned template? Can new values of victory emerge? Or perhaps it is… a progressive eco-response from the Planet to a modern subject who has come to believe in their own power? The creators dive into a dark cosmos of complex, stereotype-laden, sensitive topics: the arising of life, female and male identity, and personal and eternal values.

Opening hours during VGW:
