ARTIST TALK
Theo Bardsley | 18:00

Address: Užupio g. 28 (TUMO gallery)September 11th

On September 11 at 6 PM, an exhibition tour of Echoes of the Room with artist Theo Bardsley will take place at TUMO Gallery. During the tour, the artist will introduce selected works, reveal the contexts behind the exhibition, share details of his creative process, and discuss how personal experiences and different geographical locations — London, Morocco, and Vilnius — have shaped the imagery presented in the exhibition. During the meeting, Theo Bardsley will also reflect on his residency at TUMO Gallery, which began on August 24, sharing his creative discoveries in Vilnius, the influence of the city and its surroundings, and how the impressions gathered during the residency extended the exhibition’s themes of memory, space, and traces of human presence.

Theo Bardsley’s solo exhibition Echoes of the Room presents a series of paintings exploring the boundaries between the private and public worlds, traces of human presence, and the relationship between memory and space. The artist creates a subtle tension between the figure and its surroundings, where traces of the past remain even after a person has left. Drawing on experiences and observations in London, Morocco, and Vilnius, Bardsley combines intimate situations with impressions of passing strangers. Alongside figurative works, the exhibition also features paintings without people, where their presence is suggested through details: a shadow in a window, cigarette smoke, or an empty space. From August 24, the artist will be in residence at TUMO Gallery in Vilnius, and works created during the residency will become part of the exhibition.
