ARTIST TALK
Erika Povilonytė | 14:00

Address: T. Vrublevskio str. 6 (DRIFTS)September 13th

Erika Povilonytė’s solo exhibition, curated by art historian Mėta Valiušaitytė, opens at DRIFTS gallery on 4 September 2026. This is the first large-scale presentation of the artist’s work in Vilnius, taking place following a creative residency in Taiwan, where she developed a new series of works in collaboration with the traditional paper mill Goang Xing. In Povilonytė’s work, paper is not merely a material or a surface for painting; it becomes a space, a partner in dialogue. Working with handmade Asian paper, the artist explores its fibre, colour, and fragility, seeking a subtle balance between the painterly gesture and the logic of the material. The exhibition reveals Povilonytė’s consistently evolving dialogue with the medium of paper and presents the latest phase of her creative practice. It is a conversation about slow looking, fragility, and forms that are born not from representation, but from an attentive relationship with the material.
